Red Candy Apple is an exquisite hybrid onion with a globe shape, boasting gorgeous magenta-red skin and a slightly pungent yet sweet flavor. These intermediate plants can be harvested and stored for up to 2 months, making them a suitable choice for Zones 3-9.
Sweet and crisp intermediate-day red onion, known as Red Candy Apple Hybrid, with magenta-purple wrappers, pure white flesh, high antioxidant content, and 2-month storage ability.
Intermediate-day onions are less sensitive to day-length than the traditional short- and long-day varieties, so they can be grown almost anywhere in the U.S. You will love the adaptability and ease of this gourmet treat!
Growing Options : Red Candy Apple onions are suitable for growth in short, intermediate, and long day areas, but have shown the most optimal performance in intermediate day areas. Short day onions in particular, require 10 hours of daylight to produce larger bulbs, while intermediate day onions need 12-14 hours. This popular variety, Red Candy Apple, is classified as an intermediate day onion. For those in long day areas, additional nitrogen-rich fertilizer may need to be applied to support bulb development, as they start bulbing at 14-16 hours of daylight.
