Shrubs for Birds & Wildlife

This plant brightens up a winter landscape with its reddish purple branches. With its clusters of white flowers, and creamy white fruit, Red Twig (Redosier) Dogwood is one of the more photogenic conservation plants.

It was selected not for its ornamental qualities, but for its ability to form roots along its branches where they touch the ground. This characteristic makes Red Twig Dogwood an excellent choice for planting on stream-banks and slopes to control erosion. Thickets created by the shrub’s rooting stems provide wildlife cover, and its fruits are eaten by a variety of birds. It is also appropriate for use in windbreaks, shrub borders, and landscape plantings.

If you’re looking to attract Birds and Wildlife to your landscape, look no further than this  plant group. The characteristics that make these species so visually appealing – showy flowers, stunning fruit, winter color – are some of Nature’s most powerful draws for the animal kingdom.

Turn your yard into a naturally balanced eco-system! Whether you choose one variety or one of each, you’re sure to enjoy these plants for a lifetime. They provide food, shelter and nesting. Plant your backyard sanctuary today!

Planting Instructions: Widely adaptable to soil type and soil moisture. The plant grows on soils that are moist and moderately fertile, and it is somewhat shade tolerate. Dig a hole large enough to encompass the roots without bending or circling. Set the plant in place so the crown (part of the plant where the root meets the stem) is about 1-2 inches below the soil surface. Cover with soil to the original soil surface and water thoroughly.

Unfortunately they never sprouted leaves

When I recieved these plants they were in their dormant condition. I planted them right away in pots and put them in a protected area. It has been over a month and there are no signs of growth or new leaves. I believe they came in dead..
