Saxifraga Seeds - cochlearis Minor Groundcover forms a dense cluster of rosettes with spathulate leaves coated with lime. Its flowering stems can reach heights of 15-25cm and branch into slender panicles. This plant is commonly found in the South-western Alps on limestone terrain. It should be noted that this species exhibits a significant range in size, with the smallest variety being referred to as var. minor. It is a very good garden plant, the var. minor being particularly pleasing in a trough. The form sold as var. major is probably a hybrid with S. callosa.

In early summer, from a dense, solid cushion consisting of compact evergreen rosettes of spoon-shaped, mid-green leaves with lime-encrusted margins, arise dense hairy sprays of rounded, sometimes red or yellow-spotted, white flowers in early summer. It performs well in a moderately fertile, very well drained scree or rockery.
Basic Color: (white / cream)
Flower Color: white
Natural Flowering Period: May - June
Winter Hardiness Zones: Z5 - Z8
Height with Flowers: 60 cm
Soil Requirements: avoid lime
Usage: for the rock garden / suitable for cutting
This group of Saxifrage is best grown in small crevices filled with a humus-rich, sandy soil in full sun in the rock garden.
Sow the tiny, dust-like seeds very flat on a humus-rich, very sandy or stony soil from early spring to mid summer. Do not cover seeds with soil and keep pots in full sun. Always water from beneath and keep pots sheltered from heavy rains so that seeds will not be dispersed. Transplant young plants in early spring as soon as seedlings are strong enough.
