Hot pink to magenta stems and veins with dark jade coloured foliage, Magenta Sunset Swis Chard is a beauty among the Swiss chards. Magenta Sunset is grown primarily for immature salad greens as it tends to bolt during summer heat. Kept in check, it will produce abundant nutritious leaves with a mild earthy flavour. Sow again in August for a fall harvest or for decorative 60cm (24") plants.
It can be grown for sprouts, baby leaf, and to full maturity,open-pollinated so you can harvest seed and save for next year's planting!

Growing. Give Swiss chard plants 1 or 2 inches of water each week and spread mulch around them to conserve soil moisture and keep weeds at bay. In the early growth stages, protect seedlings and transplants with a row cover.
Harvesting. Start snipping and eating Swiss chard anytime after leaves form. To harvest mature chard this fall, cut full-size leaves from the outside of the plant.
Culinary tips: Use in recipes that use pak choi or spinach. Baby leaves add a mild flavor and lovely color to salads. Sauté, steam or boil mature leaves and stalks.
Try sauteeing like spinach with a little olive oil and sea salt!
