Truckers yellow Corn (Open pollination) Heirloom Corn Seed, Untreated, Non-GMO, Pesticide Free

Product Description
8 to 9 foot stalks bear 8 to 10 inch ears with 14 to 18 rows of deep, tender, sweet Yellow kernels, if picked early. If ears are allowed to mature, the kernels will be hard and can be used to make hominy.
“Trucker’s Favorite” corn (Zea mays “Trucker’s Favorite”) is a white variety of sweet corn. The ears of corn grow 8 to 9 inches long on plants reaching 8 to 9 feet high. This corn type is ready to harvest in 95 days and is best when eaten as soon as it is picked. “Trucker’s Favorite” resists corn earworms and plant diseases, which makes it easier to grow than other varieties that have not been improved.
How to Grow Trucker Corn

Work the soil up with a shovel in an area with full sun exposure. Add a 2- to 4-inch-layer of well-rotted compost or manure to the planting area. Dig the amendment into the soil to the depth of 12 inches, and let the planting bed sit over the winter.
2
Check the soil with a thermometer starting two weeks after the last spring frost date. When the soil temperatures reach 60 degrees Fahrenheit or above, loosen the soil with a garden hoe. Create rows 1/2 inch deep spaced 30 to 36 inches apart. Corn rows need to run parallel to each other to ensure the best pollination rate. Place the corn seeds in the row 9 to 12 inches apart. Cover loosely with soil.
3
Water around the base of the corn plants whenever the soil starts to dry out. It is important to provide the corn plants with moisture when no rainfall has occurred. Water until the soil is damp to a depth of 8 to 12 inches. Use a hand trowel to dig down between the rows to check the watering depth. Do not let the soil dry out completely. It will take about 5 gallons of water per square yard each week to give the corn plants enough moisture.
4
Make an inch-deep trench beside each row of corn when the plants are 12 to 18 inches tall. Sprinkle slow-release all-purpose 5-5-5 fertilizer into the trench, and cover the fertilizer with soil. Use the amount recommended on the back of the fertilizer package. Water the area immediately to start the fertilizer working down to the roots.
5
Spread a 2- to 3-inch layer of straw mulch around the base of the corn plants after feeding them. Mulching slows the evaporation of the soil moisture and reduces the growth of weeds. Pull surviving weeds up by hand. Do not cultivate around the roots of the corn deeply with a hoe.
6
Pick fully formed ears of corn at the milk stage, which occurs 20 days after the appearance of the silk strands. Snap the ear off by pushing downward with your hand and twisting the ear free of the stalk. Sweet corn will produce one large ear and a second ear if the growing conditions are right. This smaller ear grows on the same stalk, which develops later, so do not pull up the corn stalks until the end of autumn when the weather turns cold.
