A Guyanese Treasure — Tiny, Round & Packing Scotch Bonnet-Level Heat

Wiri Wiri Pepper (Capsicum chinense) is a prized Guyanese heirloom — small, round, cherry-like fruits that pack serious Scotch Bonnet-level heat with a uniquely fruity, slightly smoky flavor. A beloved staple in Guyanese cuisine used to season meats, pepper sauces, and rice dishes. Compact plants are excellent container growers.

Growing Tips

Plant in full sun with rich, well-draining soil. Amend the planting hole with compost and feed every 2–3 weeks for the first 6 weeks. Mulch the base with 1–2″ of compost to retain moisture. Keep indoors during cold snaps below 55°F.

Harvest Tips

Harvest with clean garden scissors when fruits are fully red. Always wear gloves — this pepper is seriously hot. Pick frequently to maximize yield.
