Lenten Rose

Lenten Rose (Helleborus) is the shade garden’s answer to early spring color — blooming from late winter through spring when almost nothing else dares to flower. These tough, elegant perennials thrive in the deep shade where most plants struggle, producing nodding, cup-shaped blooms in rich plums, pinks, whites, and near-blacks that last for weeks.

• Live plants — Helleborus ‘Red Mountain’ Lenten Rose, established and ready to plant
• Seeds — Double Ladies Mixed, Boughton Beauty, Christmas Rose (Hellebore) — note: hellebore seed requires cold stratification and patience (12–18 months to bloom from seed)
• Bloom season — late winter to mid-spring (Feb–April depending on zone)
• Growing conditions — part to full shade; moist, well-drained humus-rich soil; zones 4–9
