PURPLE TOP TURNIP,ORGANICALLY GROWN SEEDS,Good to eat and they are so easy to grow! You get a tremendous amount of food from turnip seeds.
Pick the baby greens to add to salads. When the globes begin to develop, have some with a dip for a crunchy, satisfying appetizer. Finally, the mature globes are delicious, low-calorie stand-ins for potatoes - try them mashed, or added to a roast or a stew.
This pretty root crop matures quickly in cool weather. Baby turnips, adored by the French, are harvested when radish-size, cooked whole and unpeeled. The mild, earthy flavor and butter-smooth texture complements roasts and other hearty fare. Enjoy the tender greens raw or steamed.
Plant seeds in early spring as soon as soil can be worked. Plant in enriched soil. Sow seeds sparingly, firm soil gently over the row and keep moist. For a fall crop, plant in late summer or early fall.
Thin to the recommended spacing when the first true leaves appear. Water regularly. To harvest, pull small, radish-size turnips for greens and roots a month after planting. For mature greens, snip off leaves 1 to 2 inches above the ground. Turnip roots lose flavor when they've become bigger than a large egg.
