Habanero Hot Lemon is a certified organic Capsicum chinense that rivals the hottest peppers commonly grown — small, lantern-shaped, lemon-yellow pods packing an extraordinary 100,000–445,000 Scoville Heat Units. Light green wrinkled fruits ripen to a vivid lemony yellow, with the signature fruity-floral habanero aroma. Easy to grow as an annual in any climate, thriving in full sun with warm temperatures and well-drained soil.

Variety Details

  • Species: Capsicum chinense (Caribbean Yellow type)
  • Pod Size: ~1 inch wide × 1½ inches tall; lantern-shaped, thin-walled, wrinkled
  • Color Progression: Light green → Lemon yellow
  • Heat Level: 100,000–445,000 SHU — extremely hot
  • Days to Maturity: 90 days
  • Plant Size: ~30 inches tall × 15 inches wide
  • Type: Certified Organic, heirloom/open-pollinated

Safety First

Always wear rubber gloves and avoid touching eyes or face. Use very sparingly in cooking — just a few grams will heat an entire bowl of salsa. Handle with care at all times.

Starting Seeds

  • Start indoors 10–12 weeks before last frost (chinense needs a long head start)
  • Germination temperature: 80–85°F — heat mat required; germination time 1–4 weeks
  • Use organic seed-starting mix; avoid jiffy peat pots or standard potting soil
  • Transplant outdoors after last frost when soil is consistently warm

Growing Tips

  • Full sun; well-drained soil with pH 6.0–6.8
  • Daytime temps ~70°F, nights ~60°F; does not tolerate frost
  • Plant 2 feet apart; keep soil moist but not waterlogged
  • Feed with blood meal, fish emulsion, or water-soluble vegetable plant food
  • Grows well in containers; thrives as an annual in all climate zones
