Nasturtium - Jewel Mix, Edible Flowers

Tropaeolum majus ‘Jewel Mix’ — Nasturtium — produces a brilliant cascade of edible flowers in rich shades of red, orange, and yellow from June until the first frost. Organically grown. The peppery-flavored flowers and young leaves are equally at home in the garden and on the plate — a beautiful edible garnish, fresh green, and salad ingredient. Attracts bees and other pollinators; excellent as a container plant; may self-seed. Approximately 220 seeds per ounce.

Sowing Guide

Indoor start: Start indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost date. Sow 3–4 seeds, 1/8 inch deep, in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Germinates in 14–21 days. Move seedlings to a grow light (16 hours per day) until true leaves develop. Transplant indoors to a larger container, or harden off for outdoor transplanting after last frost.

Spacing: 18–24 inches apart.

Direct sow: Can also be direct-sown outdoors after all frost risk has passed.

Soil: Rich, moist, well-drained for seedlings. Mature plants tolerate poor and sandy soil. Do not over-fertilize — excess fertilizer promotes foliage at the expense of flowers.
