Ajuga reptans — Bugleweed or Bugle — is a low-growing, evergreen perennial ground cover outstanding for shady, hard-to-plant areas where other ground covers struggle. Thriving in partial to full shade with moist, well-drained soil, Ajuga produces attractive spring flower spikes of vivid blue blooms at just 6 inches tall, spreading 12–18 inches wide. In areas with mild winters it remains evergreen, providing year-round interest with its rich, bronze-burgundy-toned foliage in winter. Deer resistant; attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Very low allergen. Relatively carefree but can spread aggressively — plant where it can spread freely or manage runners as needed. USDA Zones 4–9.

Germination: 21–28 days. Keep seeds consistently moist until germination occurs.
Rate: 1–2 seeds per cell; approximately 200 seeds covers 40 square feet.
Spacing: 6–9 inches apart.
Care Guide
Light: Partial shade to full shade. Morning sun acceptable — enhances foliage color. Avoid intense afternoon sun.
