Deep Pink, White Veins, and a Low-Growing Cloud of Color
Pink Cloud is a standout low-growing caladium with exceptionally strong, saturated color. Its heart-shaped leaves are a deep, vivid pink dissected by bright white veins and trimmed with a clean green border โ the effect is lush and cloud-like, with layers of color that demand attention. Compact and dense, Pink Cloud is ideal for borders, window boxes, shaded porches, and mixed container plantings where you want bold color without height.
Plant Highlights
- Leaf type: Fancy leaf โ heart-shaped
- Colors: Deep pink with white veins and green border
- Height: Low-growing โ 12โ24 inches (varies by conditions)
- Light: Partial shade to full sun (some afternoon shade recommended in hottest climates)
- USDA Zones: 9โ11 (lift tubers in fall in colder zones)
- Great for: Borders, window boxes, shaded porches, entryways, mixed containers
- Thrives in: Heat and humidity
How to Plant Caladium Bulbs
Plant tubers knobby side up, 1โ1ยฝ inches deep and 8โ14 inches apart. Wait until soil temperature has reached 65โ70ยฐF and nights are consistently warm. For bushier, fuller plants, remove one or more primary sprouts (de-eye) with a paring knife before planting โ this sets the plant back briefly but produces significantly more shoots.
Care Tips
- Soil: Fertile, well-draining; amend with compost or topsoil at planting time
- Water: Moderate at first; keep soil moist but never waterlogged. The plant signals when it needs water once established
- Fertilizer: Use sparingly โ too much encourages excess green growth at the expense of pink color
- Light: Partial shade preferred; capable of full sun with extra water and some afternoon shade
- Winter storage: In zones below 9, dig tubers in fall and store in a dry, airy place until spring
Pink Cloud is a perfect choice for brightening shady corners, decorating entryways and mailboxes, or creating a stunning mix in beds alongside begonias, impatiens, and coleus.
