Burning Bush (Kochia Trichophylla) - Grown from Burning Bush seeds, this feathery bush is pale green in the summer, but then transforms to an intense red in the fall. Kochia Trichophylla Burning Bush is symmetrical and oval in form and makes an outstanding foliage plant. The Kochia bush is truly one of a kind and brings a great addition to the flower garden. It reaches 28 inches in height and looks great when grown as a hedge along the border or in groups of 3 for focal interest.

For areas with a long growing season, Kochia Burning Bush seeds can be started directly outdoors in a prepared seed bed. For earlier Kochia plants, start the Burning Bush seeds indoors. Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Plant the Kochia Burning Bush in full sun.
Germination: Sow indoors at 70-75°. Sow 4-6 weeks before planting out and with no cover as light aids in germination. Seeds will germinate in 10-15 days. Seeds can also be sown outdoors in the spring after all danger of frost is past.

Growth: Transplant when there are at least two sets of true leaves. Space seedlings 18-24 inches apart in full sun in dry soil with excellent drainage. Fertilize moderately. Very tolerant of hot weather and in cool weather it is slow to establish. Shear to keep plants compact and tidy. Plants will self-sow around the garden.

Appearance and Use: A vigorous annual for use in the border, for hedging and screening, and as an accent. The dense, rounded habit in 2 1/2 - 3 feet proportions offers green, narrow, feathery foliage that turns red in the autumn. Grown primarily for its foliage as its green flowers are not showy.
