Scotch Bonnet: 10 Seeds

Corbaci is a rare Turkish heirloom sweet pepper with dramatic, scimitar-shaped fruits — up to 10 inches long, slender, curved, and twisted. Despite its striking appearance, Corbaci is mild and sweet with a rich, complex flavor that makes it exceptional for frying and pickling. One of the most productive sweet peppers you can grow, and a true conversation piece in the garden.

Variety Details

  • Species: Capsicum annuum
  • Type: Sweet frying pepper
  • Origin: Turkey (heirloom)
  • Pod Size: Up to 10 inches long; very slender, curved
  • Flavor: Rich, sweet — excellent for frying and pickling
  • Heat Level: None to very mild
  • Non-GMO, open-pollinated

Starting Seeds

  • Start indoors 8 weeks before last frost
  • Sow ½ cm (¼ inch) deep in well-drained seed-starting mix
  • Germination temperature: 80–95°F (30°C ideal) — heat mat strongly recommended
  • Germination time: 1–4 weeks
  • Supplement with grow lights if natural light is limited

Planting Out

  • Transplant 2–3 weeks after last frost when soil has warmed above 50°F (10°C)
  • Nighttime temps below 59°F or above 73°F can reduce fruit set — time transplant accordingly
  • Plants can be spaced close enough for slight contact; they benefit from mutual support

Growing Tips

  • Full sun; well-drained soil rich in phosphorus, potassium, and calcium
  • Water consistently — steady moisture without waterlogging
  • Avoid excess nitrogen (promotes foliage at the expense of fruit)
  • Mulch with black plastic to retain heat and moisture
  • Stake tall plants for earlier and heavier harvests
  • Floating row covers protect against cold early in the season

Harvest

Pick young for tender, pale-walled frying peppers. Allow to fully ripen for thicker-skinned, more flavorful pods. Frequent picking encourages near-continuous production. Continue harvesting until first frost.
