This Carolina jessamine vine is fragrant with trumpet-shaped yellow flowers and dark-green foliage that turns yellow or purple in the winter. It grows up to 20 ft. long and can climb trees or structures. Native to the southeastern United States and Guatemala.
This high-climbing vine is very common in parts of the South, frequently found in abandoned fields and climbing high into the canopies of pine forests.
Carolina Yellow Jessamine is a versatile and resilient plant with glossy, evergreen leaves and waxy, trumpet-shaped flowers. It is popular in suburban landscapes in the Southeast due to its durability and lack of disease or insect problems. It is important to note, however, that all parts of the plant are poisonous and can be deadly to livestock. Another variety, Rankins Yellow Jessamine, is found in swamps from North Carolina to Florida and has odorless flowers.
The twining vine Gelsemium sempervirens, also known as yellow jessamine, can be found in the Gelsemiaceae family and is native to warm temperate and tropical regions of America.
