Tulipa clusiana ‘Super Mix’ — the celebrated Lady Tulip in a beautiful blend of varieties — is a miniature botanical (species) tulip renowned for delightful fragrance, graceful low habit, and genuine perennial performance. One of the only tulips that is truly deer and rodent resistant. Can be grown in warmer regions of the United States without a required cold period. Blooms April through late May. Naturalizes freely and improves year after year. Top size 6/8 cm bulbs. Height: 4–6 inches.

Plant Highlights

  • Fragrant, multi-variety botanical mix — elegant natural look in early spring
  • Genuinely deer and rodent resistant — one of the only truly resistant tulip species
  • Perennial: naturalizes and returns reliably year after year with good drainage and sun
  • Can be planted in warm climates without a required cold period
  • Weather-resilient: stays close to the ground; striped foliage on many varieties adds extra appeal
  • Attracts bees and butterflies; delightfully fragrant
  • Blooms April through late May; top size 6/8 cm bulbs supplied

Planting Guide

When to plant: Fall, for April–May bloom.

Location: Mostly sunny to light shade; excellent drainage essential. Avoid waterlogged sites.

Depth & spacing: Plant 6–7 inches deep (at least 2x bulb height), pointed end up. Space 5–6 inches apart in beds; cluster closer in containers.

After planting: Water thoroughly to settle soil. In spring, water lightly during dry spells of 3–5 days. Avoid overwatering.

Post-Bloom Care

Remove green seedpods and cut stems promptly after flowering. Do not cut foliage until fully yellow/purple — the leaves feed the bulb for next season. Stop watering after foliage removal to allow the bulb to rest. These botanical tulips are among the most reliably perennial when sited in full sun with good drainage.
