Hemerocallis ‘Stella d’Oro’ is the most celebrated and widely planted daylily in history — and for good reason. Its bright golden-yellow, star-shaped blooms appear from May through July and beyond, with a bloom period far exceeding that of typical daylilies. Lightly fragrant; attractive clumping foliage. Freely multiplying; naturalizes readily. Grows in almost any well-drained soil with minimal care. An iconic choice for borders, mass plantings, containers, and naturalizing across virtually any garden style. Slug resistant.

  • Freely multiplying and naturalizing; clump-forming with attractive foliage
  • Grows in almost any well-drained soil; minimal care required
  • Outstanding for borders, mass plantings, containers, and naturalizing
  • Slug resistant

Planting Guide

Planting: Plant in any well-drained soil. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate roots without bending. Set the crown 1–2 inches below the soil surface. Backfill and water thoroughly.

Watering: Water immediately after planting. Prefer deep watering once per week over daily light watering. Do not allow to dry out completely; avoid waterlogged conditions.

Seasonal care: Remove dead blooms and foliage for a tidy appearance. In late fall, cut foliage to ground level and mulch over the root zone to protect against hard freezes. In colder climates, spring planting is preferred. Avoid planting July–September in the South during periods of high heat and humidity.
