An excellent choice for bordering the sunny flower garden or filling baskets and containers, these seeds for African Marigold, also known as Aztec Marigold or Tagetes erecta tall Sierra Orange, produce stunning orange blossoms that never lose their luster. This taller variety is perfect for mass plantings and is a reliable option for brightening up any garden or flower bed. Anyone can easily grow these tall marigold flowers from seeds, making them a popular option for children.

Marigolds grow well in poor soil with sufficient moisture. Care includes trimming old blooms for new flowers, and the long blooming season lasts from late spring to fall in most areas. Sow seeds 6-8 weeks before the last frost in quality soil, gently press into soil and cover lightly. After hardening off seedlings, transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed. Alternatively, sow directly in prepared beds after the last frost, and blooms appear within 8-10 weeks.

Sowing:

Plant African Marigold, crackerjack seeds just below the soil surface in spring and lightly moisten the soil until germination. They can also be started indoors 4-6 weeks before the last spring frost for optimal germination in high humidity and 70°F temperatures. Typically, these Tagetes Erecta seeds will germinate within 5-10 days.

Growing:

Seedlings need periodic watering until they are established; mature plants can withstand dry periods, but regular watering during droughts will promote more abundant blooms. Prune the stems to encourage a fuller, bushier plant. Continual deadheading encourages prolonged blooming. This particular plant attracts both bees and butterflies. Under optimal growth conditions, it has the ability to self-sow. It's a versatile choice, suitable for use as a border plant or in containers.

Harvesting:

When selecting cut flowers, opt for stems with freshly bloomed flowers. Remember to remove any foliage that may dip into the water and place them in water promptly.
