Celosia (Castle Yellow) - Celosia seeds are easy to grow and produce blooms usually within 90 days of starting the flowers seeds! This Celosia is a dwarf variety, and it is excellent in the hot, full sun border and performs wonderfully in hot, humid climates. Celosia is also known as Cockscomb and Plume Plant, which are descriptive of the erect feathery, plume-like heads of flowers. This Plume Plant Celosia is brilliant orange and gives a dazzling display of color. Celosia flowers are excellent for cutting. The plume-like blooms are wonderful in either fresh or dried arrangements. To dry the Celosia flowers, hang them upside down in a cool dark, well-ventilated place for several weeks.
Celosia plants like full sun, and they perform their best when grown in rich soil with lots of organic matter added to the soil. The soil needs to be moist but not saturated. Water Plume Plant Celosia regularly during dry periods. Celosia benefits from applications of general purpose fertilizer once or twice a month.
Celosia seeds are very tiny. For areas with a long growing season, Celosia flower seed can be directly sown into your flower garden in prepared soil after frost season has passed. For cooler areas with shorter growing seasons, start the Celosia seeds 4- 6 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the Celosia seeds into the soil but do not cover them. The flower seeds need to stay moist, and require warm soil to germinate. Pinch back the early blooms to encourage more branching.
