Champ peanuts are well-known for their delicious flavor. Cultivate your own peanuts and create homemade peanut butter!
This early maturing Virginia-type peanut has a pink testa and bright pod color. For highest yields, the peanut vines need 4-5 months of frost-free growth and well-drained soil. Under ideal conditions, yields 50-60 pods. Plant seeds 2 inches deep and 6 inches apart, with 1 foot between rows.

This peanut variety is productive, easy to grow, and has a rich flavor. It can be boiled, roasted, made into peanut butter, or pressed for oil. No hilling is required, making it suitable for clay soils. It is considered early maturing and should be planted by late May for a good crop. (I am in zone 7)
Growing : Peanuts can be started as plants indoors or direct seeded after all danger of frost has passed.
Plant Peanut Seeds 1-2 inches deep and 6-12 inches apart. Be patient as they are slow to germinate. Once plants emerge, keep well-weeded and avoid disturbing the fruiting tendrils that will grow into peanuts.

Harvest : After harvesting, the plants should be placed on benches and the peanuts should be easily cleaned by spraying them with water. Allow the plants to dry under the sun for a few hours before bringing them into a shed for a week. Once fully dry, the peanuts can be easily extracted. Keep the peanuts indoors for an additional 4-6 weeks for further drying before storing them. For consumption or sowing purposes, it is best to store the peanuts in their shells.
