These flavorful Cipollini onions, also known as summer mini onions, originate from Boretto, Italy and are characterized by a flat, spherical shape. Sporting a rosy-bronze glossy appearance, each one measures about 1-3″ in diameter and 1″ in thickness. Once cooked, they become incredibly sweet and caramelize to a beautiful hue. Truly unique, these onions are a perfect addition to farmers’ markets and are also perfect for braiding. They thrive in Intermediate and Long Day areas, making them a must-have for any onion grower.

Planting
To get the sweetest, crispest cipollini onions, just follow these simple rules: Plant them in full sun and well-drained soil. Weed, and then pre-dig the onion bed to loosen the soil. Dust the bed surface with 1 cup of balanced organic fertilizer per 10 feet of row, and work in 2 or 3 inches of compost.
Harvest Instructions
Members of the onion family generally give a very obvious signal when they are ready to harvest. The tops fall over and the tips of the leaves start to turn brown. In addition, the bulbs are full size. Pull the onions, shake off any soil, but do not wash them or pull off any outside wrapper leaves.
