This variety of Cabbage Seeds - Late Flat Dutch is ideal for non-GMO seekers. With large 15-pound heads and flattened oval shape measuring 12 inches in diameter, it's a great choice. It takes just 100 days to harvest. Originating in the Netherlands in 1840, it is a popular choice with a rich history and widespread availability since 1924.
Sowing: Start Late Flat Dutch cabbage seeds indoors 8-12 weeks before last spring frost. Plant in rich soil, 1/2 inch deep and 2 inches apart. For best results, transplant seedlings 4 weeks before last frost and space 12-18" apart. Avoid planting with tomatoes or pole beans for optimal growth. Companion plant with aromatic herbs or potatoes.
Growing: When encountering hard frosts, protect young plants by covering them. Maintain even soil moisture and temperature by mulching around the plants. Late Flat Dutch is heat tolerant and resistant to splitting.
Harvesting: When harvesting the cabbages, it is recommended to pick them as soon as they feel firm and reach a good size. Smaller cabbages are typically more tender, while larger ones grown in the fall have a longer shelf life during the winter months.
