Cultivating Long Red Florence Onions

To ensure optimal growth, we recommend starting these seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost. Keep the soil consistently moist and provide adequate light for germination. Once the seedlings are 4-6 inches tall with multiple leaves, transplant them to a sunny location with well-drained soil. When planting, space the seeds 4-6 inches apart in rows, leaving 12-18 inches between rows. For the best results, maintain good air circulation, consistent moisture, and use mulch to suppress weeds. Fertilize regularly throughout the growing season.

Harvest Red Florence Onions

During late summer to early fall, gently lift harvested Red Florence onions out of the soil using a garden fork. Curing the onions in a well-ventilated, cool, and dry area for a few weeks can significantly improve their storage. Before storing in a cool, dry place with good air circulation, be sure to trim the tops and roots.
