An unusual, hard-to-find strawberry! Bareroot Plants
NEW Strawberry, ‘Pineberry’ is white with red seeds and tastes a bit like pineapple! This is an unusual, hard-to-find strawberry! These small berries are full of the finest flavors and aroma that other strawberries cannot compete with. Gourmet chefs throughout the world search for these delicious strawberries to garnish the food creations they prepare. One plant will produce fruits from the beginning of the spring until frost; it is a SUPER EVERBEARING plant. Flowers and fruits appear at the same time, making this plant an excellent choice for a groundcover or border plant with delicious fresh fruit. It also has excellent winter hardiness. This is one of the most delicious and ornamental fruits you will ever grow!

Pineberry plants produce small, fragrant white strawberries with a pineapple-like flavor. These disease-resistant fruits are ideal for small-scale farming and have been popular in European markets since 2011.

Growing and care

  • Planting: The best time to plant pineberry bare roots is in early spring as soon as the soil is workable, or in the fall, several weeks before the ground freezes. Potted plants can be transplanted throughout the spring and early fall.

  • Pollination: Many pineberry cultivars, such as 'Natural Albino', are only partially self-pollinating and produce a significantly better yield when planted with a compatible red strawberry variety for cross-pollination.

    • Recommended pollinator varieties: Day-neutral red strawberries like 'Albion' or 'Seascape' are good choices because they have a long, consistent bloom window. You can plant one red strawberry for every 3–5 pineberry plants.

  • Sunlight: Choose a location with full sun (6–8 hours of sunlight per day) for optimal fruit production. In very hot climates, some afternoon shade is beneficial.

  • Soil: Pineberries prefer organically rich, sandy loam soil that is moist but well-drained, with a slightly acidic pH between 5.5 and 7. If your soil drains poorly, consider using raised beds. Avoid planting where tomatoes, eggplants, or peppers have grown, as they can leave pathogens in the soil.

  • Watering: Provide consistent watering, aiming for 1–2 inches per week, especially during the growing season. Ensure the water goes directly to the soil, not the leaves, to prevent fungal diseases.

  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer, such as 10-10-10, about 4–6 weeks after planting and again in August. For an organic option, use compost or compost tea.

  • Harvesting: Pineberries are typically ready to harvest from late spring into the fall. The fruit is ripe when it turns from green to creamy white and the seeds are bright red. The flesh should be soft and aromatic.

  • Winter care: In colder climates, mulch the plants with straw or grass clippings in the winter to protect them from the cold. Potted plants can be brought indoors during winter.

Containers: Pineberries grow well in containers, such as large pots or vertical gardens
