
How to Grow Broccoli
Broccoli is a resilient, cold-weather vegetable providing vibrant green nutrients. Broccoli is part of the Cole Crop family, which also includes cabbage, kohlrabi, kale and more. It can be grown twice a year, in the late spring and the fall.
To plant:
Plant broccoli seeds indoors 6 weeks before last frost for spring crop, transplant seedlings at 4 weeks old.Start broccoli seeds indoors 3 months before the first fall frost and transplant seedlings at 4-6 weeks old.
Plant broccoli with 20 inches between plants and 36 inches between rows.To grow:
Broccoli pests include aphids, cabbage loopers, cabbageworms, and mildew. Use soapy water for aphid control. Watch for yellow spots from mildew in moist weather. so try to keep leaves as dry as possible. Handpick cabbageworms and looper off the leaves, but use a floating row cover if the problem gets out of control.
