Sowing

Start seeds indoors before the last expected frost or direct sow outdoors after frost danger has passed. Sow shallowly in a moist, well-drained seed-starting mix and keep evenly moist until seedlings establish. Harden indoor-grown seedlings gradually before transplanting.

Growing and Harvesting

Space plants to allow airflow and branching. Once established, water when the soil begins to dry rather than keeping it constantly wet. Pinch growing tips to encourage a fuller shape, and remove spent flower stems if you want to limit self-seeding. Harvest healthy leaves and stems before or during early flowering, then dry them in a shaded, well-ventilated place.
