Viola cornuta 'White Perfection' is a treasured cool-season perennial viola producing a dazzling display of pure white flowers with a light, delicate scent. Often called Horned Violet or Tufted Pansy, viola cornuta is valued by gardeners for its compact habit, long bloom season, and versatility in beds, borders, groundcover plantings, hanging baskets, and containers. 'White Perfection' is an especially clean and elegant selection — and growing violas from seed is an economical way to fill entire beds and borders with both spring and fall color.

Plant Highlights

  • Pure white blooms with a light, delicate scent
  • Compact habit: 6–8 inches tall — excellent for borders, groundcover, and containers
  • Cool-season performer — plant for spring color and again for fall
  • Works beautifully in hanging baskets and window boxes
  • Perennial in zones 6–9; grown as annual in colder climates

Growing Guide

Timing: Sow in early April for spring flowering; sow again in July for fall blooms.

Starting indoors: Sow in starter trays in winter for earliest spring planting. Cover seeds lightly — thinly, no more than the thickness of the seed — and keep moist until germination (14–21 days at 68°F). Seeds need light for germination.

Transplanting: Thin or space 8 inches apart. In mild-winter areas (zone 6+), start in summer and plant out in fall for winter and spring color.

Site & soil: Full sun to partial shade; well-drained soil, pH 5.8–6.8. Water consistently; violas prefer cool, moist conditions.
