Size: 1 PLANT

Bring graceful purple bells to your garden with Rooguchi clematis, also spelled Roguchi. Its approximately 2-inch flowers have deep blue-purple coloring and recurved petal tips, creating a distinctive display along a support or among border plants. This perennial is a versatile choice for containers, trellises, and mixed garden planting.

Plant Highlights

  • Variety: Rooguchi clematis.
  • Flowers: Nodding, bell-shaped blooms in deep blue-purple tones, fading toward indigo.
  • Season: Summer into early fall; the supplied growing information lists June–September, with timing varying by climate.
  • Pruning: Group 3, flowering on new growth.
  • Support: Stems may need gentle tying or guidance rather than relying on strong self-clinging growth.

Available Options

  • 1 plant
  • 3 plants
  • 10 roots

Select your preferred option before adding to cart. This listing is for planting material, not seeds. The 10-root option is listed separately from the starter-plant options.

Planting and Position

Choose a sunny to partially sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Loosen the planting area and incorporate compost where needed. Make a hole large enough to spread the roots comfortably, following any planting-depth instructions supplied with your order.

Water thoroughly after planting. Mulch around the base to help retain moisture and keep roots cool, leaving mulch clear of the stems. For containers, choose a pot with drainage holes and a suitable support.

Growing and Care

Keep newly planted roots consistently moist without waterlogging, particularly during dry weather in the first growing season. Guide stems onto a trellis or neighboring support with loose, soft ties. Check ties as stems grow so they do not constrict the plant.

Feed in spring as growth begins, following the fertilizer label rather than applying a fixed amount regardless of product strength.

Group 3 Pruning

Rooguchi flowers on the current season's growth. Cut back the previous season's stems in late winter or early spring before strong new growth begins, taking care not to damage emerging shoots at the base. Remove dead or damaged growth and guide new stems as they develop.

After Flowering

Spent flowers may be removed for a tidier appearance, or decorative seed heads can be left in place. Continue watering as needed through the growing season. Flowering and establishment vary with climate, planting time, and care.
