Growing Details

  • Type: Double daffodil, late-season
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade
  • Planting depth: 6 inches deep
  • Spacing: 6 inches apart
  • Soil: Well-drained — bulbs will rot in waterlogged ground
  • Watering: 1 inch per week when leaves appear; stop 3 weeks after flowering ends
  • Fertilizing: Use a low-nitrogen fertilizer (e.g., 8-24-24) when blooms open; mix in bonemeal in fall
  • When to plant: Fall — before the ground freezes

After Bloom Care

Deadhead spent blooms regularly to prevent seed setting. Allow foliage to remain until 6–8 weeks after flowering ends, then cut back to 1 inch above ground. Mulch with 2 inches of straw for winter. Divide clumps every 5–10 years to prevent overcrowding — loosen soil carefully, lift bulbs, and replant 6 inches deep and 6 inches apart in fall.
