Planting Guide (Outdoor Beds)
Soil: Well-drained; hyacinths will not survive in soggy soil or standing water. If drainage is poor, amend with compost, peat moss, or ground bark to raise the bed 2–3 inches.
Light: Full sun; tolerates a little afternoon shade in the hottest areas.
Depth & spacing: Dig holes 7–8 inches deep; space bulbs 6 inches apart. Plant with the pointed end facing up. Water thoroughly after planting to settle soil around the bulbs — roots develop in autumn.
Forcing Indoors
Pot up several bulbs when stems are just beginning to show — or bring containers indoors when the first bells begin to open for a burst of spring fragrance inside your home.
Care Tips
After blooming, allow foliage to die back naturally before removing — leaves feed the bulb for next year. Lift, dry, and store in a cool, dark place after foliage fades; replant in autumn.
