Chilhuacle Rojo Chile,Capsicum annuum, Rare organic pepper from Mexico

CHILHUACLE ROJO - mild; 3 to 4 inches long by 1.5 to 2 inches wide; thin flesh; matures from green to deep maroon red; pendant pods; green leaves; 18 to 24 inches tall; Mid Season (70-80 days); Uses: Mexican Cuisine, Mole; from Mexico; from Oaxaca region; C.annuum. 20 seeds. Yet another outstanding product from Mexico’s Oaxacan valley. This chile is medium-hot to taste and deep red in color. Perfect for red moles and has hints of dry cherries and anise.
An ancient and rare chile grown only in the Cañada valley of Oaxaca. Like all chilhuacles, this chile varies in shape from rounded balls to broad-shouldered and tapered. Not traditional but this chile also makes an amazing paprika once ground.
All chilhuacles are slowly falling out of favor and are slowly disappearing due to their high production costs. Spice Trekkers are making a concerted effort to import and popularize these chiles to contribute to the survival of these truly ancient chiles.
Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 8 weeks before the last frost. Direct seeding is not recommended. Stake to keep fruit off the ground and mulch for disease and weed control.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest the first fruits early to encourage continued production through the season. Cut (don't pull) the fruit from the stems.
Did You Know? Sweet peppers are loaded with vitamins C and A. Red peppers contain twice the vitamin C and eleven times the beta carotene of green peppers.
