Saponaria (Saponaria Ocymoides- Rose-pink) - Rock Soapwort, also known as Saponaria Ocymoides, is a perennial that produces beautiful rose-pink blooms and a dense carpet of color. This low-maintenance, low-growing ground cover is easily cultivated by sowing Saponaria seeds, making it an excellent choice for beds, borders, gardens, and even hanging over walls or crevices. With its superior flowering abilities, Saponaria Soapwort is a top pick for any gardening enthusiast. It also works nicely in containers and in hanging baskets.
Seeds per Ounce: 15,000
Saponaria Soapwort is a fast-growing ground cover that will readily re-seeds itself, and it has semi-evergreen foliage. Trimming the Rock Soapwort back after the blooms are spent keeps the plant tidy and helps to keep the re-seeding to a minimum.
Sowing: Sow directly outdoors during late fall, pressing the seeds lightly into the soil as this plant requires light for germination. Alternatively, for spring planting, sow on the soil surface and maintain light moisture until germination occurs, typically after 14-30 days. For an earlier start, sow Saponaria Ocymoides seeds indoors 6-8 weeks prior to the spring planting. Once seedlings have grown several leaves, gently transplant them.
Growing: Keep soil moist until seedlings are established. Fast-growing, low maintenance plant tolerates heat, drought, and rocky soil. Prune for fuller growth. Attracts bees and butterflies, self-seeds if not trimmed after flowering. Great for ground cover, edging, or containers.
