The Bolivian Inch Plant (Callisia repens), commonly known as Bolivian Jew, Turtle Vine, or Creeping Inch Plant, is a low-maintenance creeping plant. Its small, olive green leaves have a raspberry tinge, which extends to the undersides. These leaves are delicately wrapped around a dark vine that can grow up to two feet in length. With minimal care, the Bolivian Inch Plant thrives in bright indirect light and regular watering.

Best Locations For Growing Bolivian Inch Plant

The Bolivian Inch Plant is a versatile and practical houseplant option, ideal for hanging in a kitchen or bathroom window. Its leaves attach securely and neatly to its vines, offering an attractive decorative touch. With its non-toxic properties, this plant is ideal for households with children or pets.

Bolivian Inch Plant Sunlight Requirements

Position the Bolivian Inch Plant near a north- or east-facing window to receive indirect bright light throughout the day. Alternatively, south- and west-facing windows can also provide suitable lighting, as long as the plant is shielded from direct afternoon sunlight to prevent leaf burn. In low light conditions, the Bolivian Inch Plant may become leggy with an elongated space between its leaves, resulting in a less compact appearance.

Bolivian Inch Plant Care

The Bolivian Inch Plant will grow well in a standard houseplant potting mix that is peat based and well draining. Repot this plant every two years or so, choosing a pot an inch or two larger than the previous, with drainage holes. When watered incorrectly, the Bolivian Inch plant will develop soft stems (overwatering) or lose its lowest leaves (underwatering). This plant can be trimmed regularly to keep the plant compact and encourage branching, creating a fuller look.

Watering Bolivian Inch Plant

Maintain the soil moisture by allowing the top inch or two to dry out between waterings. Ensure deep watering until water flows out the pot's bottom every 5-7 days, depending on lighting and temperature. These plants thrive in consistently moist, but not overly saturated soil and may wilt if not watered enough. Consistency in watering is crucial to maintaining the plant's health and full appearance.
