Allium atropurpureum is an heirloom ornamental allium treasured for its dramatic, deeply saturated dark burgundy-purple florets packed into bold, structured globe heads on tall, stiff stems. Among ornamental alliums, Atropurpureum stands out for its unusually rich, near-black coloration — a striking departure from the typical lavender and blue-violet alliums — making it a powerful color statement in mixed borders, heirloom gardens, and sunny meadow plantings. Blooming from late spring to early summer, it pairs beautifully with silver-foliaged plants, cream-white flowers, and ornamental grasses. Long vase life makes it an exceptional cut flower, and it dries superbly as well.

- Tall, stiff stems add dramatic architectural structure to borders

- True perennial — returns year after year

Planting & Care
Plant bulbs pointed tip up in well-drained soil in fall. Fertilize with bulb food at planting. Water well after planting. Allow foliage to die back naturally after blooming. Deadhead spent blooms to prevent self-seeding, or leave seedheads for continued structural interest. Excellent for heirloom gardens, sunny borders, and naturalized meadow plantings.
