Burkina Yellow Scotch Bonnet Pepper Seeds
Grow Burkina Yellow Scotch Bonnet peppers for intense heat and distinctive tropical-fruity flavor. The small, pendant peppers mature from pale green to a vibrant yellow and are well suited to hot sauces, jerk-style cooking, marinades, and spicy relishes.
Heat level: Extremely hot. Handle ripe peppers with care.
Growing Instructions
- Start seeds indoors 6–10 weeks before the last expected frost. Pepper seeds can take 1–4 weeks to germinate, so warmth and patience are important.
- Sow about 1/4 inch deep in a clean, well-drained seed-starting mix. Keep the mix evenly moist and provide warmth, bright light, and good air circulation.
- When seedlings have several true leaves, harden them off gradually for 7–14 days.
- Transplant outdoors after frost has passed, the soil is warm, and nighttime temperatures stay above about 55°F.
- Choose a sunny, wind-protected location with fertile, well-drained soil. These peppers also grow well in large containers.
- Water deeply during hot or dry periods, allowing excess water to drain away. Mulch around the base to help maintain even soil moisture.
Harvest Instructions
- Harvest when peppers reach their mature yellow color and desired size.
- Use clean garden scissors or snips to cut peppers from the plant rather than pulling them.
- Pick regularly as fruits mature to encourage continued production.
Kitchen Uses
Use these fiery peppers in jerk sauces, hot sauces, salsas, marinades, spicy relishes, and other recipes that need serious heat with a tropical pepper flavor.
Hot Pepper Safety
- Wear disposable gloves when handling ripe peppers, seeds, or cut fruit.
- Avoid touching your eyes, face, and other sensitive areas while preparing peppers.
- Wash hands, knives, cutting boards, and other tools thoroughly after handling.
- Keep fresh peppers and prepared sauces away from children and pets.
