Melic (Melica ciliata) - Start Melic grass seed and grow this stunning ornamental grass. It is commonly known as Silky-Spike Melic Grass or Hairy Melic, and it forms a neat upright grass that is well-suited to the border, small garden or containers. This ornamental grass has gray-green foliage, and it features narrow, silky white inflorescence which fade to cream as they begin to die off. The papery spikelets are good for cutting and using in fresh arrangements if they are cut before they are fully open.
How To Grow Melic Grass From Ornamental Grass Seed: Start the Melica ciliata seeds indoors in the late winter. Use small pots filled with seed starting mix. Place the Melic grass seeds onto the soil and cover thinly with sand or soil. Keep the ornamental grass seed in constant moisture (not wet). Transplant Silky Spike Melic outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Melic grass will self-sow.
